At Baptist Regional Children’s Center, a pediatric anesthesiologist specifically trained in children’s physiology will provide surgical care for your child. Whether they have a complex illness or need urgent care, your pediatric anesthesiologist will make safety and well-being first priority.

Important information about your child’s general health, including any allergies or asthma, any recent illnesses, and whether there has been any difficulty with anesthesia in the past.

Most children 10 and under are given anesthesia through a mask so they can fall asleep before an IV is started. Older children and young adults who need an IV before anesthesia receive a numbing cream.

Most are not serious and may include sore throat, headache, irritability, nausea and/or tiredness.

Some discomfort after a major surgical procedure is to be expected. Your anesthesiologist is experienced at managing children’s pain after surgery, and will provide the necessary medicine to keep your child as comfortable as possible.
